VACATION NEWS
The Holiday Vacation starts at the close of school on Friday, December 20th, which is a full day of school.  School will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd.  During the week of vacation, the building will be closed. You may leave messages on the school’s voice mail or on my email (dbousquet@goffstown.k12.nh.us).  I will be checking my emails periodically during the vacation.

HOLIDAY TOY COLLECTION
As it’s been a tradition in the past, Bartlett Elementary School will once again be collecting toys for our community this holiday season. All items can be dropped off at the school until December 13th. They will be donated to the Goffstown Network to be distributed to local children and teens.  Yes, teens!  They are the hardest to buy for and are often forgotten in “toy drives”.  If you choose to participate in this drive, we ask that you be mindful especially to teen boys – they are the hardest to buy for.  But whatever you decide, you can drop off your gift at Bartlett.  Thank you!

ROY APARTMENT VISIT
On Friday, December 13th, our fourth graders will be visiting the Edward Roy Apartments to perform some holiday music to our neighbors.  We will be asking parents to volunteer to bake some treats to share with  these senior citizens to help make their holidays a little happier.

HEALTH REMINDER
Cold and flu season is upon us.  More and more, we see and hear children coming to school who are not feeling well.  Bartlett’s Student Handbook states, “A child should be kept home if he or she has a fever, sore throat, vomiting, earache, severe cough or cold, severe upset stomach, infected eye, or skin rash.”  If your child is sick, please follow this guideline to help keep other students (and staff) from catching the illness.  Thank you for your understanding.

HOLIDAY CONCERT
On December 17th, the MVMS band will be visiting Bartlett to treat our students and staff with some great music, including many holiday songs.  It is always nice to see these talented students, especially the former Bartlett students!

SCHOOL SAFETY
At Bartlett, we take a proactive look at the safety of our building.  To help students get along with others and to solve conflicts as they arise, we have included PBIS and the Second Step program in our school.  The staff wear identification tags to show that they are employees of the school.  Visitors are reminded to sign in and wear visitor stickers.  We have also taken steps to deal with possible dangers. Currently, all exterior doors are locked during the school day, except for the front door.  However, the front, inside door is locked and has a buzz-in system.  There are also security cameras at the building entrances and on the playground.  The staff at Bartlett Elementary School cares about your children and will continue to strengthen our safety procedures and act responsibly in maintaining a safe learning environment.

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM
One of the greatest things you can do to help your child succeed in school is to read at home. Today we are starting our 100 day reading incentive program.  Each child should be keeping a log of what they read.  Logs can be used to earn rewards.  Thank you Mrs. Jolin and Mrs. Simmons for organizing this valuable program this year!
